Every year we host a number of high-quality academic events with well-known professionals, academics, and other thought-leaders that span all areas of international affairs.

Philanthropy

Our organization particpates in multiple philanthropic engagements every year. Through our affiliation with GW Alt Greek and other fundraising efforts, SIR GW has donated hundreds of dollars to the American Refugee Council and other organization.

Professionalism

Our membership, focuses on internship opportunities, study abroad, career develop, and alumni networking. SIR GW members are at the forefront of study abroad and internship opportunities.

Former Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security

Ms. Lute spoke with SIR about international security in a digital age. She is currently the UN Special Advisor on Cyprus and the UN Special Advisor on improving the United Nations' response to sexual exploitation and abuse. She has formerly served as Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security for the United States and the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Mission Support.

Bernard L. Schwartz Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations

Mr. Alden spoke with SIR about trade and globalization and their effect on Americans in the global economy. Mr. Alden has been the project director for many CFR-sponsored Independent Task Forces focusing on issues such as globalization, automation, trade investment, and U.S. immigration policy. Prior to CFR, Mr. Alden worked as the Washington bureau chief for the Financial Times, and was the managing editor for the Inside U.S. Trade newsletter.

Former Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs

Ambassador Jones spoke with SIR about National Security and the Foreign Service. Ms. Jones served in the Foreign Service for 35+ years, achieving the highest rank of Career Ambassador. An expert in European, Eurasian, and Middle Eastern affairs, she served as the Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. She has been posted in Islamabad, Kabul, Cairo, Amman, Baghdad, Bonn, and Berlin, among others.
